And so it Begins…

August 17, 2022. 612 days ago. That’s when the idea of what would become Oaks on Main was first birthed out of a meeting between Freedom Church and the Boone County Economic Development Corporation. It honestly didn’t seem like it would go anywhere beyond that initial meeting. “That would be cool, but there’s no way we can make it happen,” was our initial response. But God kept opening doors and making it evident that this idea was something on our horizon.

Since then, so much work has gone into Oaks on Main - most of it completely unseen. Work around conference tables, behind computer screens, over hours of Zoom meetings, and through thousands of emails and Slack messages. It’s work that few people ever witnessed, but was required to lay the foundation for what was finally able to happen this month - the start of construction. Admittedly, it’s taken a lot longer to get here than any of us thought. The front door still says, “Opening early 2024,” and that’s even a year beyond the optimistic, “February 2023,” response that our lead pastor gave as a potential opening date when we first announced the project in late 2022.

But, it’s finally happening.

Today, our once quiet and empty 100+ year-old building is filled with dust, noise, and building materials as construction crews start framing the interior walls. This phase of work will take about a month, and then we’ll be ready to progress into HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. As finances allow, we’ll move into the finishing phases of the project.

There is still a ton of work left to do, more obstacles to overcome (like figuring out how to get a 30’ tall tree in our building), and a large amount of funding left to raise, but we’re excited to celebrate the start of construction as well as God’s faithfulness and provision throughout this entire process.

We can’t wait for the day we get to open the door for you!
